Schoenorchis fragrans, also called The Fragrant Schoenorchis, is distributed in subtropical areas such as northeastern India, Thailand, Myanmar, and Vietnam, where it grows in semi-evergreen forests at an altitude of 600-1200 meters.
Schoenorchis fragrans is a very small orchid species. The plant height is only about 1.1” and the stem is about 0.8”. Its oval-shaped leaves could reach 1“ long at maturity, and are closely packed in two rows, which makes Schoenorchis fragrans recognizable. The leaf is thick and hard.
Schoenorchis fragrans has very high appreciation value even though it is small. It blooms in succession in summer, and could produce several to more than 20 flowers at the same time once flowering occurs! When blooming, its brilliant reddish purple flowers are about 0.4" in diameter and are durable and fragrant.
Schoenorchis fragrans likes warm environment, 70 - 80ºF in daytime, and keeps it above 65ºF at night. Watering your orchid 3 to 4 times a week, but keep in mind that the roots should be dry out.
Because its roots are very sensitive to water stagnations, potting in a clay is not recommended. Instead, use tree fern slabs for a better aeration.
It’s a little cute plant. I put it with other wood mount tiny orchids in a large glass tank with sand and stones on the bottom, setting up as table top exhibition . Plant is healthy, mounted neatly.
Arrived in great shape. Just one thing: I think it would've been better mounted on the coco bark. The moss is drying out too fast on the wood mount and the wood has split from the dampness. I will just remount it on something.
